Minha História - Blackstreet

Blackstreet é um grupo americano de R&B fundado em 1991 por Thomas R. Taliaferro Jr. e Teddy Riley, o inventor do New Jack Swing conhecido por seu trabalho como membro do Guy. Chauncey Hannibal e Levi Little assinaram contrato com Thomas Taliaferro e formaram o grupo Blackstreet juntando-se com Joseph Stonestreet e Teddy Riley, sendo esta a formação original. A formação original lançou seu primeiro single em 1993, para a trilha sonora do filme CB4 estrelado por Chris Rock intitulado "Baby Be Mine", com Joseph Stonestreet no comando, produção de Teddy Riley e letra de Teddy Riley e Joseph Stonestreet. Joseph porém deixou o grupo logo após o single ter sido lançado devido a diferenças pessoais com Riley, e foi substituído por Dave Hollister.

O primeiro álbum, BLACKstreet, foi um sucesso moderado, devido ao singles "Booti Call", "Before I Let You Go" e "Joy" - duas das três canções foram Top 40 Hits ("Before I Let You Go" hit no Top 10). O álbum seguinte de 1996 Another Level foi um sucesso devido ao top single "No Diggity" (com Dr. Dre), que foi primeira posição na Billboard Hot 100, e conquistou em 1998 o Grammy Award de Melhor Performance R&B por um Duo ou Grupo com Vocais, juntamente com o Top 40 Hit "Don't Leave Me", que foi um grande sucesso em 1996. Another Level, eventualmente, foi quatro vezes disco de platina nos Estados Unidos e alcançou a terceira posição na Billboard. O sucesso do álbum rendeu uma aparição no "Jay-Z, The City Is Mine", e eles se uniram com Mya e Mase para o hit "Take Me There", da trilha sonora do filme Rugrats. O sucesso do álbum ainda lhes rendeu um lugar no New Edition's 1997 Home Again Reunion Turnê. Another Level foi caracterizado pelos novos membros Mark Middleton e Eric Williams no lugar de Dave Hollister & Levi Little.

O primeiro single do terceiro álbum, “Girlfriend / Boyfriend”, uma parceria com Janet Jackson, Ja Rule e Eva - fez com que o grupo finalmente tivesse um Top 10 Album com o álbum Finally. Mas as trocas de pessoal destruíram o grupo e contribuiu para o relativo fracasso do álbum e o grupo logo se desfez. Depois de rumores de uma ação judicial, o grupo reatou e lançou Level II em 2003. Blackstreet agora é composto por membros integrantes originais Teddy Riley, Chauncey Hannibal, Dave Hollister e o novo membro Sherman "J-Stylz" Tinsdale. Os ex-integrantes Mark Middleton & Eric Williams deixaram o grupo devido às diferenças com os fundadores Teddy Riley & Chauncey Hannibal.

Teddy Riley gravou um álbum de reunião com Guy em 2000 e, posteriormente, começou a trabalhar em material para seu primeiro disco solo. No entanto, ele tinha dúvidas sobre o desmantelamento do Blackstreet, e com as coisas resolvidas com Hannibal, Middleton e Williams, voltaram a restabelecer a programação para o Another Level, e o seu projeto solo tornou-se uma reunião do Blackstreet. O álbum resultante, Level II, foi lançado no início de 2003.
